DAVID SERERO to star in the Merchant of Venice this June in New York
William Shakespeare's classic THE MERCHANT OF VENICE will be performed in New York on June 10th at 3pm (Preview), 14th at 7pm (Opening), 22nd and 24th at 8pm 2015.
International baritone and actor DAVID SERERO will play the lead role of SHYLOCK. The A.S.F promotes Jewish Sephardi culture at the Center of Jewish History.
This Merchant of Venice production will adapted into a Sephardi style featuring Jewish Ladino music of the era. It's a world-premiere adaptation.
When they were living in Spain and Portugal, Sephardi Jews were playing Ladino music (a language mixed with Spanish and Hebrew) before they were chased by the Spanish Inquisition and had to flee to Middle Eastern countries such as Morocco, Tunisia..etc.

SHYLOCK : DAVID SERERO
DAVID SERERO is a Sephardi Jew from Morocco, born in Paris and living in New York, who has gained international recognition as an Actor and a Baritone. At only 33 years old, this fresh performer has performed more than 700 concerts and performances worldwide. Some of these have been broadcast on worldwide television, totaling an average audience of 30 million viewers and 18 million on radio. Performing on the most prestigious worldwide stages and for the most important occasions, this true Show-Man and Entertainer brings a fresh approach to the Opera world by giving more than 80 concerts per year, during which he gets all his eclectic repertoire (Opera, Broadway, World Music, Jazz and Comedy), resulting as unique shows. He has given concerts at the Opera Garnier Paris, L'Olympia, The Eiffel Tower...the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, the Budapest Opera conducted by Placido Domingo, a show at the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam...and made his sold-out WEST END debuts at the Dominion Theatre. David performed at Wembley Stadium and the Royal College of Music in London. He has sung over 20 lead roles in Opera, Operetta, and Musical Theater. David has produced and directed I WISH YOU LOVE, an album of Jazz standards with Jermaine Jackson.
In December 2013, David shared the cover of "Theatre & Performances" with BARBRA STREISAND in London and made his BROADWAY solo debut at the SNAPPLE Theatre in New York.
As an Actor, he starred in feature films, TV Movies series, and Plays. He recently performed in New York the lead roles in the movie The Kingdom of the Alley, Ring Ring, Super Paradise, Capicola, Laundry Day, Ransom, There Will Come Soft Rains, and more. He recorded THE BROADWAY BARITONE, featuring Broadway classics with a Philharmonic orchestra. From May to October 2014, he gave more than 100 performances on his One Man Musical Show in Paris at the Theatre du Gymnase.
During the summer of 2014, he recorded NAPOLEON's entire love letter correspondence to Josephine and released his new studio album, THE CROONER BARITONE, The Frank Sinatra Classics. Since October 2014, he has been playing the part of Chef Bruno in the musical TRUFFLES in New York. In March, he played Sly and Vincentio from The Taming of the Shrew at the New York Public Library. In May, David will be King Edward from Richard III in New York, and later in August, he will be King of France from Henry V in Azincourt, France. BASSANIO : JOSEPH TALLUTO
Joey grew up in Boston and is proud to be the first-generation American in his family (his parents were born in Sicily). For four years, he has performed on the nationally-ranked comedy troupe "Seriously Bent" while performing at the Boston comedy club, "Improv Asylum," which has been featured on HBO. He studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute of Theater and Film and received a Bachelor of Arts in theater at Suffolk University in Boston.
PORTIA: DINA DESMONE
Dina couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of this production! She was last seen off-Broadway and touring around the country and internationally in Girls Night: The Musical. Some other favorite credits include Cinderella in Into the Woods, Princess Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress, and the world premiere of A Child's Christmas in Wales. A Point Park University graduate and proud Pittsburgh sports fan, Dina is forever grateful for the support from her family and friends. Yinz is the best!
ANTONIO : JAMES BOCOCK
James is pleased to be a part of this production of Merchant of Venice. He is located primarily out of Boston, where he has performed with such companies as Stickball Productions, Bay Colony Shakespeare Company, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, Argos Productions, The Nora Theatre Co., Zeitgeist Stage Co., The Huntington Theatre Co., and the nationally recognized Tennessee Williams Festivals in both Provincetown, MA and New Orleans, LA-both affiliated with New Urban Theatre Lab. He has just completed a two-month New York and Chicago tour with Elements Theatre Co. His featured role in the short film "A Drop of Water" with RedTere Productions recently won the Grand Prize for Best Horror Film at the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival.
DUKE OF VENICE, SALARINO, MOROCCO and TUBAL: RON BARBA
Ron Barba is an actor from Greenwich, CT. He has appeared in national commercials and Independent and Hollywood-budgeted films. Producing and starring in his own TV Pilot, King of the List, about a Craigslist Talent Agent, and the movie "I Killed Last Night" as a detective in pursuit of a serial killing comedian, Ron has been in over 100 YouTube videos and several New York and Los Angeles stage plays and musicals.
