LOST IN THE DISCO

LOST IN THE DISCO is a unique experience of immersive theater, where the audience is directly involved in the performance and actors/dancers/singers are performing among the public. The most excellent Disco Classics will surround this love story, punctuated with comedy, where cast members act and sing among the audience and invite them to join the dance floor. Lost in the Disco will play four performances in the unique decor of the Angel Orensanz Foundation (172 Norfolk Street, New York 10002) from November 6th to December 3rd, 2019. This experience will plunge you back into the golden age of disco time and craziness of the legendary Studio 54 with classics by Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Michael Jackson, Le Chic, Shalamar, Taste of Honey, Saturday Night Fever, Earth Wind & Fire, and many more to be performed by a versatile nine members cast.

World-renowned French film director Lisa Azuelos has directed iconic French films such as LOL with Sophie Marceau and its U.S. version starring Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore. She met with opera singer, director, and producer David Serero during the 2019 New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival (Produced by Serero for the American Sephardi Federation), where Azuelos received the Pomegranate Award for Best Director. Azuelos and Serero both shared their love for Disco music and immersive theater and decided to write a musical called « Lost in the Disco.»

The Cast includes Sarah Shaiman (Lisa), Christopher Elia (James), Tieisha Thomas (Angelina), Tyler Fromson (Mike), David Serero (Barry), Jody Hinkley (Gael), Caroline Baniewicz (Giselle), Cate Benioff (Cate), Sam Brady (Sam).

About LISA AZUELOS (Writer/Director)

Lisa Azuelos is a French writer, producer, and director known for iconic films, such as LOL with Sophie Marceau, which she directed in the U.S. and starring Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore, QUANTUM LOVE with Sophie Marceau and François Cluzet, and the biopic DALIDA with Sveva Alviti and Riccardo Scamarcio. Her long-awaited and critically acclaimed new feature MON BÉBÉ with Sandrine Kiberlain and Thaïs Alessandro was released in March 2019. Lisa Azuelos is also the prolific author of 6 novels and an essay. She is intensely involved in defending women's rights worldwide through her foundation, "YOLOVE," named after the title of the documentary she produced and directed this year. Appointed by French President Emmanuel Macron and State Secretary Marlène Schiappa, Lisa Azuelos is a member of the G7 Advisory Committee for Gender Equality alongside fellow activists and female leaders.

About DAVID SERERO (Barry/Writer/Director/Producer)

Actor and baritone David Serero has received international recognition and critical acclaim from all over the world. At 38 years old, he has already performed over 2,000 concerts and performances worldwide, played in over 100 films, and recorded 20 albums. He entered the prestigious Who's Who America for demonstrating outstanding achievements in the entertainment world and for the betterment of contemporary society. In 2019, he received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, the Morocco Day Distinguished Achievement Award, and the Trophy of the Culture of Morocco. David Serero is a member of the Recording Academy and the Television Academy and a voting member of both the Grammys and Emmys. He has given concerts in Paris at the Opera Garnier, Olympia, Eiffel Tower; in New York at the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Times Square; in London at the Royal College of Music, Wembley Stadium; and in Moscow at the Tchaikovsky Hall; in Amsterdam at the Concertgebouw, the Budapest Opera conducted by Placido Domingo and more. He made his sold-out West End debuts at the Dominion Theatre. He has sung over 30 lead roles in Opera, Operetta, and Musical Theater. He has recorded Cast Album Recording of iconic roles, such as Shakespeare's Richard III and world Premiere adaptations in his extensive discography. He is also the founder and producer of several music and film festivals.

During the 2017/2018 season in New York, David Serero starred as Cyrano De Bergerac (Rostand), Don Giovanni (Mozart), Barabas (Marlowe's Jew of Malta), King Ahasuerus (from the musical Queen Esther's Dilemma), King Lear (Jacob Gordin's The Yiddish King Lear), Napoleon's title role from Napoleon by Stanley Kubrick. For the 2018/19 season in New York, David starred in Nabucco's title role, Romeo (Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in a Jewish adaptation), and Figaro (Mozart's Marriage of Figaro), which he directed and adapted. SARAH SHAIMAN (Lisa)

Sarah Shaiman is thrilled to be making her Off-Broadway debut! Last October, she made her New York debut as The Diva in Fate Still Rests at The Muse, and soon after landed her first national tour as Liza in 'Twas a Girl's Night Before Christmas. Sarah has performed all over the U.S. in shows with RWS Entertainment Group, most notably originating the role of Myss Terri in the IAPPA award-nominated production of Mysterio: Magic Rocks the Night! After winning Season 16 of "So You Think You Can Belt" at the West End Lounge, Sarah experienced a career highlight when she traveled to Russia to perform with The Cat's Pajamas Vocal Band at the Moscow International Spring A Capella Festival. Recently, she appeared as Grizabella in the premiere cast of Madame Tussauds' Broadway in Times Square and the NYC staged reading of Shanghai Sonatas, a new musical in association with Yangtze Repertory Theatre.

CHRISTOPHER ELIA (James)

Christopher was most recently seen as Dr. Caius in The Hudson Warehouse's outdoor production of The Merry Wives of Windsor by W. Shakespeare. Prior notable roles he has played include Wes in Lanford Wilson's Fifth of July and Charlie Brown in Dog Sees God. Christopher is originally from Larnaca, Cyprus, and is fluent in English and Greek. He is a Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City graduate.

TIEISHA THOMAS (Angelina)

Tieisha Thomas is a New York City Native from Queens, New York. She discovered her love of music at a young age through the influences of her vibrant Caribbean culture. Tieisha attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of the Arts for Voice and soon received her Bachelor's Degree in Theater Arts from SUNY Buffalo State. She was most recently seen in the Off-Broadway production of the Public Works Musical Adaptation of Disney "HERCULES" as Melepomene, one of the beloved Greek chorus Muses. She continues to nurture her passion for the arts on and off the stage. She offers one-on-one classes for young adults and budding artists looking to further their discovery of themselves through theater.

TYLER FROMSON (Mike)

Tyler Fromson is a Kansas City native turned New Yorker. He recently just got off the North American tour of Friends the Musical Parody, playing Ross. He has performed on cruise ships with Royal Caribbean, including the production of Saturday Night Fever. He has portrayed roles such as Seymour (Little Shop of Horrors), Bobby Strong (Urinetown), and Demetrius (A Midsummer Night's Dream). In Kansas City, he was also the lead singer of a popular 80s cover band. He graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, where he studied theatre and voice.

JODY HINKLEY (Gael)

Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Jody Hinkley received his master's from the Manhattan School of Music. Most recently, he was seen in Teen Party Massacre off-Broadway and traveling the world as lead vocalist on AIDA Cruises. He was also seen in the world premieres of Your Name on My Lips, Moving Right Along: the World of Jeff Blumenkrantz, and The Golden Smile, for which he received a nomination for Planet Connections Festivity's Best Supporting Actor. His other credits include Altar Boyz (Mark), Into the Woods (Jack), A Little Night Music (Henrik), and Grease (Doody).

CAROLINE BANIEWICZ (Giselle)

Originally from Plano, Texas, Caroline is a new New Yorker. Growing up in Texas, Caroline loved to bang on the piano, scream, and sing at the top of her lungs. Caroline went to school at Oklahoma City University for Musical Theatre. After graduation, Caroline moved to New York in pursuit of finding the best pizza in the city... and also pursue performing. Past roles include Heather Chandler in Heathers and Tammy in Hairspray. Caroline is excited to be in Lost in Disco, not just for the outfits! She loves to party, and being on stage is an incredible honor! Caroline is so thankful to Lisa Azuelos and David Serero.

CATE BENIOFF (Cate)

Cate Benioff is excited to make her New York debut in Lost in the Disco. Hailing from sunny Golden, Colorado, Cate studied in rainy London, where she graduated with a BA in Theatre from Guildford School of Acting and a Musical Theatre Diploma from Laine Theatre Arts. Her London credits include Becky in the new musical Unicorn (The Other Palace), Samantha in Side Dishes (The Union Theatre), and lead vocalist in Memorial (The Barbican). Regional stateside credits include Tricia, u/s Cassie, Sheila & Val A Chorus Line (Algonquin Arts Theatre). She would like to thank her incredibly supportive family and friends for always believing in her.

SAM BRADY (Sam)

Sam is highly thrilled to be playing herself in Lost in the Disco! She recently graduated from Circle in the Square Theatre School and is excited to be in her first post-graduation show. Her most recent roles include Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Diana in I Love You Because. She was also seen as Cyd in Social Studies (Winner of "Best Musical" at the NY Theatre Festival), in which she was awarded "Best Vocalist." When she is not performing, she enjoys reading and taking her dog on adventures hiking and to the beach. Sam would like to thank her family, friends, and teachers at Circle for their endless love and support. She would also like to thank David Serero and Lisa Azuelos for this fantastic opportunity!
